Reading’s iconic Madison Building towers over 150 feet in the air and was built between 1926 and 1927. This 14-story building served as the headquarters for Metropolitan Edison Company and later was home to many courtrooms and offices. D&B Construction has been privileged with the honor of completing this adaptive reuse project for The Scharf Group, who has invested in the future of downtown Reading through their plans to transform the Madison Building from a nearly vacant area to 85 high-end apartment units. The Scharf Group is a fourth generation family office based out of New York with a large portfolio of multi-family, commercial, healthcare, and senior housing properties that they own, develop and operate throughout the nation. In addition to The Madison offering luxurious multi-family housing, the ground floor will house the revitalized and restored “Grande Lobby” and management offices. Retail and commercial occupancies will be reserved on the ground floor of the Annex as well. This project, combined with Alvernia University's CollegeTowne, are sure to bring success to the urban revitalization of downtown Reading.
